Sisters marathoner safe after Boston bombing
Jessica Slaughter and her husband had just entered the subway in Boston on Monday, April 15, when explosions tore through the finish line area, killing three and injuring some 178 others, some critically.
Slaughter and her husband Jerry live near Eagle Crest and their children attend Sisters schools.
"We had just stepped into the subway from the finish area when the explosions went off," said Slaughter, 38. She had completed the race in 3:24 about a half-hour before the apparent bombing.
"We were right underneath where this happened (on the subway)," she said.
Phones went down and it took a little while for her to get through to let loved ones know that she was alright.
"I'm a little shaky," she said. "To target a crowd of people who had worked so hard to get here, it's so unnerving. It's just awful."
