Man arrested in connection with murder near Sisters - UPDATED; VICTIM IDENTIFIED

A 30-year-old man from Pendleton contacted Frontier Consolidated Dispatch from a location in Madras, Saturday night to report that he had killed a woman near Sisters.

Madras police contacted Joshua Leo Jokinen and arrested him on a probation violation out of Umatilla County. As this was happening Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a deceased woman at a residence on Kent Road (off Cloverdale Road) east of Sisters. An investigation led to the arrest of Jokinen for the Sisters-area murder.

Jokinen was transported and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail. The 78-year-old victim has been identified as Carolyn Grace Burdick.

Online records indicate that Jokinen has an extensive arrest record including arrests for theft, violation of restraining order and a March 2013 arrest in Umatilla County for parole violation. He was reportedly sentenced in 2006 on a serious assault charge. A woman identifying herself as Shawna Dicintio who contacted The Nugget said the man had a history of domestic violence.

"My sister has a 10 yr. old child from him and has feared for her family since his release because of his violent tendencies, as they know first hand of beatings and emotional abuse they endured before he went to prison last time," Dicintio wrote.

Mind you he was just released earlier this year after serving time for
attempted murder! My sister has a 10 yr old child from him and has
feared for her family since his release because of his violent
tendencies, as they know first hand of beatings and emotional abuse they endured
before he went to prison last time. Their son was diagnosed with stage
four cancer in late January of this year and while he fights for his
young life Big Josh steals the life of this elderly lady!

All I can say is this -----
My dearest Younger sister and Darling Little Nephew, Look not at the
horror your eyes have seen, search now for the Good in each other- Josh
Senior has made his choices- choices and actions HE ALONE HOLDS!
Responsibility HIS actions and cold calloused heart has chosen. Dearest
Nephew for one thing you must know is the single most greatest
achievement of your father is YOU! You share his name but your heart-
body and soul belong to you and our heavenly father. I pray for the
elderly Lady that has lost her life to this horrible event and I pray
for my nephew that while he fights for his life- Josh senior stole a
life from another! This world- our lives see so much pain, murder and
sickness. Please all don't hate and just Pray for all of those effected
by this horrific crime upon humanity- He will be Judged by our justice
system and in the end he will face his maker and ultimate judgement will
be passed. Stop the hate....
