11/2/2017 4:13:00 PM Forest Service to burn slash piles
With the expected onset of cool, wet weather, the Sisters Ranger District is planning to begin burning pile units throughout the district.
If weather conditions allow, the first planned unit will be ignited Friday, November 3, approximately four miles northwest of Sisters along Forest Road 1012 (Cold Springs Cutoff Road between Highway 20 and Highway 242). Ignitions are planned to begin at 10 a.m.
An additional unit has been added south of Highway 20 along Indian Ford Creek. Personnel will be burning hand-piled material generated by riparian restoration work.
Smoke will likely be visible for a few days following the burn as the piles burn down. Appropriate patrols will occur in the burn area until the piles are declared out.
The purpose of this pile burn is to reduce fuels generated by an aspen/wildlife habitat enhancement project.
Additional pile units throughout the district will be burned in the coming weeks as weather conditions allow.
