The Highway 22 route into the Willamette Valley will be closed for an extended period of time.
The highway the Santiam Canyon will remain closed between milepost 55 at the east end of Idanha to the Santiam Junction where Highway 22 and Highway 20 intersect. The closure will extend indefinitely due to damage caused by a fuel spill from a tanker trailer crash late night at milepost 63. It is estimated that almost 11,600 gallons of unleaded gasoline spilled. ODOT is assessing the damage to the road and determining what repairs will be needed.
Also, emergency officials note that a fire engine that rolled over responding to the wreck was incorrectly identified in initial reports. The engine was from the Idanha-Detroit Fire Protection District. The driver was uninjured.
