12/21/2017 1:13:00 PM Highway 22 expected to reopen Friday
ODOT spokesman Peter Murphy told The Nugget this afternoon that the agency expects the Highway 22 route into the Willamette Valley to reopen in the next 24 hours. The highway has been closed between milepost 55 at the east end of Idanha to the Santiam Junction where Highway 22 and Highway 20 intersect due to damage caused by a fuel spill from a tanker trailer crash late Friday night, December 15, at milepost 63.
"Most of the environmental clean up has been completed," an ODOT statement reported. "Crews now must grind away the old pavement, pave it over and install new guardrail before the road can be opened to travelers. Crews have been working in difficult conditions the past several days to get the road open in time for the Christmas holidays."
