The Outlaws took down the White Buffaloes 28-6 in a non-league contest on Friday, September 12.
The first quarter was scoreless as both teams went back and forth and exchanged punts.
Chase Klient scored on a five-yard run with seven minutes left in the second quarter. Marteen Jiminez' kick for the PAT was good and the Outlaws took a 7-0 lead. A key play in the 98-yard drive came from Levi Rowe. On fourth and 11, Klient threw a dart across the middle to Rowe, who went 10 yards to keep the drive alive.
The White Buffaloes took possession but were forced to punt and the Outlaws regained control of the ball. Sisters went on a seven-play, 47-yard drive and took the ball to the seven-yard line. With 1:58 left in the half, Klient completed a seven-yard pass to Lucas Reitman for the touchdown. The PAT was good and Sisters extended their lead to 14-0.
Madras drove down the field quickly but the Outlaws were able to hold them at midfield. The Buffs were forced to punt and Sisters got the ball back on their own 15-yard line with 45 seconds left on the clock. The Outlaws ran a play, Klient scrambled for five yards and called a time out to stop the clock.
"At that point they (Madras) shifted to a two cover and we ran two streaks at the safety and Chase found Levi on the post," said Coach Dusty Macauley.
Rowe caught the pass and outran the secondary for an 82-yard touchdown reception. Again, Jiminez was good on the PAT and Sisters entered the half with a 21-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Madras marched down the field to the one-yard line with nine minutes remaining in the game. The Outlaws defense made a goal-line stand against the Buffs. Madras tried a quarterback sneak two times and failed, and on third and goal the snap sailed over their head.
Sisters' defense raced back and piled on the ball. Andrew Enger got the recovery which gave the offense a chance to get back out on the field.
"It was a really huge stand by our defense, who hadn't given up any points all night," said Macauley. "Andrew Goodwin and Justin Oliver really plugged it up on the quarterback sneaks."
Both teams exchanged possessions and then the Outlaws scored with six minutes left on the clock. Randy Ketchum scored on a 53-yard catch from Klient. The PAT was good and Sisters extended their lead to 28-0.
The Junior Varsity took over with six-and-a-half minutes left in the game.
Madras drove with one minute left and scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed, time ran out and Sisters walked away with the win.
"The secondary, especially the defensive backs, had an outstanding game," said Macauley. "I saw so much improvement over our last game with Burns. They are all performing their assignments well."
Lucas Reitman led the defense with nine tackles and Andrew Goodwin and Justin Oliver pitched in for one tackle each. Tyler Miller had two pass deflections for the night.
Quarterback Chase Klient went nine for 18 for a total of 229 yards and three touchdown completions. Klient also had 10 carries for 41 yards.
Nick Head had 18 carries for 106 yards and Levi Rowe had two receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. Randy Ketchum had two catches for 62 yards and a touchdown and Jordan Kolb had two receptions for 37 yards.
Marteen Jiminez had another perfect night and has yet to miss a PAT attempt.
"Overall, I'm pleased with our effort and focus," said Macauley. "Madras played their best game of the year against us and we still won, so that was encouraging. Our defense was outstanding and our offense was great. Penalties were the only issue we had that stopped a few drives for us and kept us from scoring, and that's the thing we need to clean up."
The Outlaws will travel to Pleasant Hill on Friday, September 19.
