The Sisters girls rugby team brought home a win at the statewide Summer Rugby 7s Tournament.

The girls team, which launched this season, was made up of Sisters High School students who had no previous experience playing rugby. The girls' perseverance to build both strengths and skills over the season showed when the team was able to make something out of nothing and triumph at the state level. After a brutal face-off against Beaverton, the girls faced Canby in an effort to take home the bowl, and came out victorious, winning 21-15.

In their final game, the girls worked hard to use the skills they developed throughout the year. As with all Sisters High School sporting events, proud parents, grandparents and siblings were there to act as cheerleaders for the hardworking girls. The team has bonded significantly over the season. They would like their newfound friendships and love of rugby to extend past this summer season.

The girls hope to create a full team of 15 girls to play next spring season. Beyond their growing enthusiasm for the game, the team was encouraged by members of Rugby Oregon to continue developing their skills and act as mentors for a younger generation of rugby players in Central Oregon.

The girls were proud to bring home the bowl, a perpetual trophy, which will be engraved with their team's name and then passed on next year.
