Sisters cyclist passes grueling test
Warren Rice set himself a difficult goal last January: He committed to racing in the High Cascades 100 Endurance Mountain Bike Race. For half a year, the 55-year-old cyclist bent all his mental and physical effort toward training to make that grueling ride in under 12 hours.

Last Saturday, he cleared the bar, finishing the Bend-area course in 11 hours and 15 minutes.

Traditional gather for Hoodoo shoot
Beyond the pickups, camp trailers and tents spread across the vast parking lot at Hoodoo Mountain Resort, men and women in groups of four or five, all carrying traditional longbows, walked along from station to station, stopping to take one shot each at lions, leopards and hippos hidden among the pines, rocks and underbrush of the Nordic ski trail.

Running commentary
Just when I thought I had begun readjusting to being in the Pacific time zone after returning from South Korea, I flew to Florida for a conference focused on the International Baccalaureate program to which my school in Korea belongs. After four days in the Eastern time zone and at sea level in humidity, I headed to Fort Collins, Colorado, which is a mile high and in the mountain time zone.

Runners go to camp
What began as an innovation to expand activities at Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) turned into a very successful camp for 23 runners from throughout Oregon who participated in the inaugural Great Northwest Sports Camps cross-country camp, according to SPRD Executive Director Liam Hughes.

Spencer Smith has played goalie for the Outlaws for the past six years and is thrilled he gets to take his love for the game to the next level. Spencer signed with Brigham Young University and will play goalie for the Cougars next year.

Football camp to set young Outlaws on the right track
Young Sisters athletes will learn from some of the best in the Outlaws Football Camp set for July 22-25 at Reed Stadium in Sisters. Registration is underway for the camp, which will accommodate youngsters in flag football (1st- through 5th-graders) and tackle football athletes in 6th-8th grade (must be registered for Sisters Middle School football to participate).

Henley blanks Outlaws in title game
Henley senior Jon Guzman was a force to be reckoned with in the Outlaws' 4A state championship game on Saturday, June 7, held at the Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer. Guzman threw a no-hitter and recorded 12 strike-outs in blanking the Outaws 10-0. He also hit a solo home-run in the fourth inning.
