Pollard runs fast indoor mile for Gonzaga
Sisters graduate Brandon Pollard started 2018's indoor track season with the second-fastest indoor mile ever run by a Gonzaga athlete.

Off-season winter hiking
As is often the case, I planned an extensive vacation trip for late fall to escape the dreary days between hiking and skiing seasons. I returned, however, only to find that the snow season has yet to materialize. So, my hiking friend and I have been out on the trails again; and I've had quite a bit of feedback that indicates we are far from alone in making some lemonade out of a lemon of a snow season.

Boys basketball squeaks by Cottage Grove to win league opener
The boys basketball squad lost 67-64 to Madras in their last pre-season game on Tuesday, January 9. They staved off the Lions at Cottage Grove in the league opener on Friday, three days later, with a 50-48 win.

Friday's win against the Lions was an intense contest, with lead changes throughout.

Wrestlers make historic showing at invitational
The Outlaws wrestling team finished third (124 points) out of 11 teams who competed at the Bend Invitational held Saturday, January 6. The third-place finish was the most successful showing in Outlaws history.

Lady Outlaws struggle on the hardwood
The girls basketball squad, which has only one senior player this year, continues to struggle as they face much more experienced teams. Sisters lost both their games last week: a 45-22 loss to Redmond on Wednesday, January 3, followed by a 57-33 road loss to Burns.

Outlaws battle injury and sickness
The boys basketball squad has been battling injury and sickness, and to date they have yet to play one game with all seven of their top players. That has made it difficult for them to play consistently well. They hope to have everyone back at full strength when league play begins next week.

Outlaws swim team improves
In a week that saw the Sisters High School swim team swell to a total of 35 athletes, the Outlaws showed some strength to go with their depth in a triple dual held at Bend Swim Center on Tuesday, December 19 against Redmond and Ridgeview

The Sisters girls beat Ridgeview 70 to 45, but the Panthers edged Sisters 73 to 72 in the team scoring.

Outlaws drop game against Albany
The Outlaws were defeated 70-48 in their road game against South Albany (SA) on Thursday, December 21. Sisters has had a very tough pre-season, facing several 5A schools in hopes the high caliber of competition will prepare them for league play.

Outlaws take seventh at Seaside
The Outlaws traveled to Seaside for the annual Seaside Invitational Thursday through Saturday, December 14-16. Sisters lost their first two games of the tourney, but bounced back with a victory to claim seventh place.

The Lady Outlaws matched up against some tough competition at the Seaside Tournament held Thursday through Saturday, December 14 through 16. Sisters did make improvements as the tourney progressed, and won their final game.

Outlaws beat The Dalles on the hardwood
The Outlaws' team effort resulted in a 57-43 victory over The Dalles at home in Sisters on Friday, December 8. It was a fairly even contest the first half of the game, but Sisters outscored The Dalles in both the third and fourth quarters to seal the win.

The Outlaws competed in the Perry Burlison Invitational, held at Cascade High School on Saturday, December 2. Sisters had only 11 varsity matmen at the tournament, and finished 17th out of the 24 teams in attendance.

Girls basketball faced top teams
The Lady Outlaws faced two formidable foes this past week, and the high level of play was more than the young Sisters squad could handle. Sisters fell 54-14 at home to North Marion (No. 5) on Tuesday, December 5, and three days later were defeated 55-23 by Yamhill-Carlton (YC).

Wessel is Athlete of the Month
Standout Outlaws football player Brady Wessel has earned Athlete of the Month recognition for the month of October from the coaches at Sisters High School.

Wessel earned all-league honors and was also named Defensive Player of the Year statewide, an honor he shared with a player from Cottage Grove.
