Cyclists set to stampede into season

Tennis players lose in state quarterfinals
Jed Kizziar represented the Outlaws at the boys 1A/2A/3A/4A state championships held in Corvallis at Oregon State University on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19. So did the doubles-duo Hawley Harrer and Rylee Weber, who competed for the Outlaws in the girls' championships.

Outlaws track girls win district, finish eighth at state
On the heels of winning its fourth consecutive Sky-Em District championship, the Outlaws girls track and field team placed eighth at the state meet May 18 and 19 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Pollard shines at State track meet
Stepping to the starting line for the 1,500 meters on Saturday afternoon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Jordan Pollard knew he owned the fastest time of the season among 4A runners at 4:01, but that there was another runner on the track who would do everything possible to beat Pollard. That runner, John Kavulich of Scappoose, won the 4A cross-country title over Pollard in November by blasting from the start, daring everyone to chase him. Pollard could not make up the gap and finished second.

Students win programming award
The Dead Programmers Society, a team of four teenagers from Sisters, won the coveted Judges Choice Award for the middle school division at the Oregon Game Project Challenge (OGPC) competition held at Western Oregon University on May 12.

OGPC is an annual statewide competition of middle school and high school students that compete for designing an original video game. This year 59 teams competed. OGPC promotes digital literacy, computer science, and collaboration through game development.

The Sisters Outlaws girls' track and field team will be well represented at this week's OSAA State Championships following stellar performances at the Sky-Em District meet held May 10 and 12 at Reed Stadium.

The host Outlaws stormed to the team title as they seemed to thrive under the home field advantage.

Sickness, injury take toll on Outlaws
The boys lacrosse squad has been plagued with sickness and injury, which took a toll on the Outlaws this past week. Sisters lost 10-6 on the road at Ridgeview on Tuesday, and two days later were clobbered 21-3 at home against Bend.

Outlaws advance into quarterfinals
The boys tennis squad competed in the first round of the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 2 Championships on Thursday, May 3. Three Outlaws, Jed Kizziar, Nate Weber, and Isaiah Chapen advanced to the second round of 16, which was scheduled for Monday, May 6, at Black Butte Ranch (BBR). The semi-finals and finals will be at BBR on Thursday, May 10.

Outlaws struggle with momentum shift on diamond
The Outlaws posted a 13-2 win in six innings at Elmira on Monday, April 30, and at home a day later beat the Cottage Grove Lions 3-2. The victories were their fourth straight victory, but on Friday that momentum came to a quick end. Sisters dropped both games at home in their double-header against Junction City; a 4-1 loss in the first game, and a 9-3 loss in the second.

Track and field athletes and their fans are accustomed to enduring whatever Mother Nature doles out as far as weather is concerned, so when sunshine and warm temperatures arrive performances and spirit tend to rise accordingly.
