Taylor Lucas, a senior at Sisters High School, is Sisters Boy Scout Troop 139's newest Eagle Scout.

Lucas met all of the requirements necessary to become an Eagle Scout, and was awarded scouting's highest rank following a review board on Wednesday, April 24.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must progress through all of the ranks beginning with Tenderfoot, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, serve in a troop leadership position, and lead a community service project - all before the scout's 18th birthday.

For his service project, Lucas and his team restored a section of the Whychus Creek Wild and Scenic area which included closing off and covering up old road beds and planting trees and native vegetation.

During his time in scouting, Lucas has been the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 139 and a summer camp councilor at Camp Makualla near Crescent Lake, Oregon. One of his highlights in scouting was attending Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico, last year, where a contingent of 12 scouts and adults from Troop 139 backpacked over 100 miles during a 12-day trip, which also included climbing the Tooth-of-Time and 12,441-foot Baldy Mountain.

According to the Boy Scouts of America website, only about five percent of all Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. In 2012, there were 57,976 Eagle Scout awards, bringing the total number of Eagle Scouts to 2,209,000 awarded since 1911.
