For the first time, The Roundhouse Foundation has awarded an Enrichment Experience Scholarship of $1,000. The award is going to Sisters High School (SHS) junior Dakota Wagner.

The Roundhouse Foundation was established with a mission to encourage community enrichment and economic development through the arts in Central Oregon. For this reason, The Roundhouse Foundation has offered a total of $3,000 in scholarships to be distributed to SHS students for enriching experiences from September 2013 through August 2014.

These experiences must have an enriching benefit to the student, pertaining to the discovery of a post-graduate career selection or aspirations and/or make a difference in the community. The experiences can be seminars, camps or other types of fitting activities that support a student's area of interest.

Applicants must be enrolled at SHS, grades 9-12. The experience must be completed prior to high school graduation, a maximum of one experience scholarship per student, per school year is allowed. $1,000 is the maximum allowed per student. All applicants must submit an application with essay, letter of recommendation and experience information at least one month prior to experience activity.

Summer experiences are encouraged, but applications for summer activities must be submitted no later than June 1, 2014. A selection committee of SHS staff and Sisters GRO board members will determine recipients and scholarship amounts.

Wagner was awarded $1,000 from The Roundhouse Foundation to pursue her passion to study the environment. Wagner submitted a well-written essay with her request to attend a one-week Summer Scholars program at Quest College in Canada in the month of July. The program will focus on the "Ethics of Environmental Decision-Making," a topic for which Dakota feels an overwhelming passion. Her goal is to someday be working in a career that creates a positive impact on our environment now and for future generations.

Wagner is an accomplished student with a 4.0 GPA, she is the junior class president and the ASG School Board Liaison for the 2014-15 term. She is a full-time member of the SHS Jazz Choir, she also plays the guitar and is a singer/ songwriter as a member of the Americana Project. She believes the camp will give her an opportunity to investigate environmental studies on a deeper level and hopes to channel the knowledge she gains into her college and professional careers.
