Birds of Sisters
The Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooper) inhabits woodland areas where their diet consists of birds (75 percent) and small mammals (25 percent). This of course varies depending on the season and area hunted.

Sisters salutes...
• Larry Len Peterson of Sisters was honored with a 2015 High Plains Book Award in the art and photography category for his book "Charles M. Russell: Photographing the Legend." Award winners were announced Saturday night at a banquet at the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Montana.

USFS retiree mans lookout tower
What does a person like Sandy Sharp do when she retires after working for the U.S. Forest Service for over 19 years? She becomes a Fire Prevention Volunteer on Green Ridge Lookout, of course. All through the summer, 36 volunteers take turns staffing the lookout, some for a week at a time, others, like Sharp, one day a week.

The Sisters Kiwanis Club awards financial aid to adults who are seeking a career change. This program, known as the Kiwanis Career Opportunity Fund (OCF) assists local adults (25 or older) who are financially unable to return to school or retrain for a career change.
