    Jim Cornelius, News Editor|Updated May 26, 2015

    Updated May 26, 2015

To the Editor: I would like to post a message regarding the ongoing discussion about the proposed paved trail from Sisters to Black Butte Ranch. I live in the rural Deschutes County area; for me to ride my electric scooter in Sisters or any city is a real treat. I have ridden my scooter several times in the past on paved trails at other locations. I am a disabled veteran; I'm always looking forward to an opportunity that would allow me some freedom to ride on paved trails as well as city streets. Not saying I would ride on... Full story

  • Forest Service rebuilds Suttle Lake Trail

    Craig Eisenbeis|Updated May 26, 2015

Nearly 20 years ago, inmates seeking a little elusive outdoor freedom volunteered to do trail stabilization work at Suttle Lake. In the decades since, their work has held up well. However, since their principal building materials were logs, the structures they built have begun to rot and crumble over time. As a result, the loop trail around the edge of Suttle Lake has suffered significant damage from erosion and heavy traffic. Since the lake is popular for fishing and boating... Full story

It's a building that fits barbecue pretty darn well, according to Slick's owner Roy Slicker. Slick's was founded in Sisters in 2009 but moved to Bend. "After doing business in a really goofy location in Bend, the city of over 500 active restaurant licenses, and growing, and over 100 mobile licenses, we began to question our sanity," Slicker said. "Wh... Full story
