News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Claire Elizabeth Kanzig, 21, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 19, in Bend following a sudden turn in her health.
Claire was born in Silverton, Oregon, as the third child to Charlie and Deirdre Kanzig. The family arrived in Sisters in 1994 and Claire's impact in the area began.
Claire came into the world with flair and was well-known for her sparkling personality, effervescence, ability to connect with people, and her unmistakable style. Her love for her family and friends was undeniable.
Health issues diagnosed at an early age didn't stop Claire from living life fully. Throughout her school years she remained active in sports, music, theater and numerous service clubs. She graduated from Sisters High School in 2010 among a class filled with her friends.
She shared her gifts of singing, baking, and knitting generously with others. She put her heart into everything she did and showed a genuine interest in people from all walks of life. Her graciousness coupled with her bright shine made Claire impossible to forget.
In her adult years, Claire attended Allegheny College briefly, but health issues forced her to return to her family in Oregon. She worked to get back to college, and had plans to re-enroll locally in January.
In addition to her parents, Claire is survived by her siblings Peter, Erin, Noah, and Izaak.
The family has been overwhelmed by the genuine thoughtfulness and generosity of the Sisters community. Her memorial on Sunday, November 24, was attended by hundreds.
Burial took place November 26 at Camp Polk Cemetery.
Contributions in Claire's memory to help offset travel expenses incurred by the family's airfare from South Korea, Michigan and Colorado, as well as other costs, can be dropped off or sent to Three Sisters Fellowship (now Westside Church) at 442 Trinity Way/P.O. Box 1045, Sisters, Oregon, 97759.
