Boys lacrosse loses in tight game against Glencoe

Sisters fell to Glencoe 8-7 at home in Sisters on Friday, March 20, in a close game.

The Outlaws scored four goals in the first half, and added their final three in the third quarter.

Joe Jones had an incredible goal in the second quarter, when he ripped one into the net after an excellent dodge. Both Jones and Mark Fish scored goals to bring the Outlaws to within one goal of tying in the final minutes of the game.

Several players helped out in the scoring effort. Fish recorded three goals, Jones knocked in two, and Chance Hailey and Wyatt Gladden each added one.

According to Gorayeb, stand-out players included Casey Lane, who had 24 ground-balls in the contest, and Angelo Frack, who played at goal in his first official game of the season.

"We played hard and our defense held them, and I think that frustrated them," said Gorayeb. "The game got chippy and rough in the final minutes, but that was only because everyone's passions rose.

"This was by far the most intense game of lacrosse I have ever seen played here in Sisters. The boys were relentless and almost tied the game in the final 32 seconds. It was an incredible effort. I am so proud of every one of them."

A day earlier, Liberty crushed the Outlaws 14-4 on their home turf. Gorayeb's only comment was that the Outlaws did not give up the entire game.

Gorayeb commented on the Outlaws start to the season.

"Both games have been learning experiences for our boys," he said. "Friday night showed them one of the top-five teams in the state and what that level of lacrosse is like. Saturday showed that hard work can make a huge difference."

The Outlaws will play at Mt. View on Tuesday, March 31, at Ridgeview on Friday, April 3, and then host Hermiston on Saturday, April 4.
