Boys lacrosse post three wins

The Outlaws came out on top in every one of their three games last week.

Sisters started their week with a 9-4 win over Mt. View on Tuesday, March 31. Three days later the Outlaws beat Ridgeview 12-3, and on Saturday they tallied a 17-5 win over Hermiston JV.

In Tuesday's win, Lane Gladden led the team with three goals and two assists, and Joe Jones scored two goals and recorded two assists. Chance Hailey also scored two goals, and Mark Fish and Tyler Head each added one.

Casey Lane had 15 ground balls and eight forced turnovers. Josh Andrade recorded nine ground balls and Devon Slaughter had five.

Angelo Frack, brand-new goalie for the Outlaws, had eight saves in the game.

Sisters had an unusual penalty called against them at halftime. The referees checked one of the Outlaws players' sticks and discovered the head was one-quarter inch short of regulation.

Coach Andrew Gorayeb said, "This happened due to it being made of plastic, and it deformed under load caused by play. This caused us to get a three-minute non-releasable penalty. Most penalties are cleared once someone scores. So, during that time, we had to play short one man, which caused us to play more aggressively and ultimately lead to our getting two more penalties. We were playing defense with three men against six."

Mt. View capitalized when the Outlaws were in the tough penalty situation, and scored two goals, but Sisters held steady and went on to record the win.

Gorayeb said, "When Mt. View was warming up, they looked so good it made me nervous. Once we got into our rhythm, I felt good about our boys and their ability to compete, which in the end, they did."

On Friday, Sisters easily handled Ridgeview. Gorayeb told The Nugget that the game got chippy, but the Outlaws never lost their composure.

Sisters started out a bit slow in the first quarter, but were strong from that point on.

Hailey and Jones each scored four goals, Gladden scored two, Fish recorded one, and Casey Lane, a long-stick defensemen, scored one. Lane also recorded over 12 ground balls in the contest, which helped Sisters maintain possession of the ball for the majority of the game.

"I'm very pleased that we were able to play the entire team, and that our JV players were able to participate in this win," said Gorayeb. "This year the Outlaws are always able to remain gentlemen, maintain their composure, smile, and score. I'm very proud of them."

The Outlaws wrapped up their week with a win over Hermiston at home on Saturday.

Jones, Hailey, Gladden and Tanner Head led the team with three goals each. Fish and Tyler Head scored two goals.

Gorayeb commented on Jones.

"Joe shoots very hard, so his shots don't always end up on net, but when he rips one, it's amazing to watch," he said.

Gladden also scored a goal and had a couple of dozen ground balls to his credit.

The game ball went to rookie-goalie Angelo Frack.

"Angelo is rapidly becoming a force of nature as a goalie," said Gorayeb. "He stopped at least a dozen shots during the game, and has become very adept at chasing shots that go wide, so that we gain possession."

The Outlaws were to play at Summit on Tuesday, April 7. Sisters will play at Westview on Friday, April 10, and a day later they will play at Wilsonville.
