News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
"This one was hard to let go," Valerie Fercho-Tillery said of the quilt she has donated to raise funds for the Furry Friends Foundation.
It's easy to see why the quilter grew particularly attached to the whimsical quilt featuring dogs and even a couple kitties engaged in all kinds of recreation. The color and detail are exceptional.
Entitled "Pets Just Wanna Have Fun," this year's originally designed quilt is truly a work of art.
For Fercho-Tillery, it's more about the cause than it is about the quilt, so it now hangs at The Nugget Newspaper office, where it is up for grabs in the Furry Friends annual quilt drawing.
"This is one of biggest fundraisers each year. Last year's quilt raised over $2,000. That goes a long way to stock our two pet-food banks," said Furry Friends Founder Kiki Dolson.
"I so appreciate Valerie's dedication to Furry Friends. She'll even be on hand Quilt Show Saturday to help sell the tickets," said Dolson.
This is the fourth quilt crafted by the Sisters quilter, who moved here in 2013. She was inspired to take up the craft by a visit to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show some 10 years ago. And she's a dyed-in-the-wool animal lover. She volunteered at the Folsom Zoo in California for 29 years, and she and her husband are pet-parents to rescue dog C.J.
Furry Friends Foundation helps families in Sisters by maintaining two pet-food banks, providing assistance with emergency veterinarian bills, and sponsoring vaccinations, spay and neutering through Bend Spay & Neuter Clinic.
Tickets are available at http://www.furryfriendsfounda
