Highway 242 will open from Sisters to summit

Travelers will once again be able to take Highway 242, the Old McKenzie Highway, up to the McKenzie summit, beginning Friday, September 25, at 8 a.m. Access will be allowed ONLY from the gate west of Sisters to the summit at about Dee Wright Observatory. No access will be allowed on the western portion of the highway until additional firefighting and danger tree removal has been completed, ODOT reports.

ODOT had closed the entire highway as wildfire forced the closure of Highway 126.
