The Lady Outlaws hosted Mountain View on Monday, May 3, in their last regular match of the season. Sisters lost 3-5, but there were many well-fought contests with four of the eight going to a tiebreak.

Juhree Kizziar (No. 1 singles) continued her winning streak with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kailei Ouellette, and improved her record to 7-3 overall.

“Juhree is learning the finer intricacies of match play,” said Coach Alan VonStein. “She continues to put in the necessary extra time to hone her skills. She also exhibits a strong inner desire to win.”

Katie Ryan, at the No. 2 singles spot, beat Mollie Wagnon 6-1, 7-6. VonStein told The Nugget that Katie continues to impress as she covers the court with her quickness and athleticism.

“Katie will continue her aggressive approach as she looks forward to districts,” said VonStein.

Sisters final win was their No. 2 doubles duo, Jenna Kizziar and Josie Patton. The pair defeated Ella Morris and Madalyn Aegerter 6-2, 6-3.

VonStein said, “Jenna and Josie are developing confidence as they work together in their matches. Josie’s severs are coming to life as is Jenna’s net play and baseline game.”

Although Brooke Harper lost her No. 3 singles match, she was in the hunt. She lost the first set 5-7 and came back to win the second set 7-6, before falling 8-10 in the tiebreak.

“Brooke continues to have a competitive fight in every match,” said VonStein. “She never lets down. She is beginning to learn how to move her opponent around the court along with learning the importance of deep baseline shots.”

The No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams took their matches to tiebreaks. Elena Mansfield and Charlotte Seymour lost their first set 1-6, and fought back with a commanding 6-1 victory in the second set. They fell 8-10 in the tiebreak.

Molly Greaney and Leah O’Hern followed in similar fashion, losing their first set 2-6, and coming back with a 6-4 win. They lost 2-10 in the tiebreak.

“All of the girls played extremely hard and fought to the end,” said VonStein. “It was a well-balanced matchup between the two schools. The girls have the remainder of the week off from competition and will spend their time honing their skills in preparation for districts.”

Districts will be held Monday, May 10 at Madras, and then finish up on Thursday and Friday at Black Butte Ranch.
