The Lady Outlaws came out on top in a final score of 45-42 in a very close game against Summit JV on Monday, May 17. Two days later they lost 22-54 on the road against Mountain View, and at home on Friday they fell 25-40 to Sweet Home.

Monday’s game against the Storm was close the entire game, and neither team led by more than three points until the final quarter.

Sisters got contributions from several players in the final period. Ashlynn Moffat tied the game with a three-pointer with less than two minutes left on the clock. Josie Patton and Payden Petterson scored key baskets, and Ellie Mayes quieted the Storm with a shot from behind the arc in the final minute. With 5.6 seconds left, Maggie Lutz hit the final free throw to give the Lady Outlaws a three-point advantage.

Summit attempted a three-point shot at the buzzer but it bounced off the rim, and the Outlaws recorded the win.

Moffat led the Outlaws with 10 points, Haleigh Froehlich tallied nine, and Patton added eight.

Coach Carl Click said, “I don’t care that it was a 6A JV team. It was a competitive game the entire way. The girls were tough and resourceful after only six practice sessions, and everyone contributed. We are shorthanded and under-practiced, but started off with a great effort and a win.”

On Wednesday against Mt. View the Outlaws made it a close game for most of the first quarter, but got stuck on six points and only scored two free throws in the second period. The Cougars continued to score and recorded the win.

Emma Lutz, Mayes, Froehlich, and Patton all scored four points each. Petterson and Moffat each contributed a three-pointer.

Click said, “At 4A, playing a 6A varsity team is a challenge for us at this point. We’re young and not even close to full strength with the spring sports just finishing up.”

In Friday’s matchup against the Huskies, the Outlaws started off well and led 8-6 at the close of the first period. Unfortunately, Sisters was outscored 15-5 in the second quarter and the deficit was too much to overcome.

Patton, Froehlich, and Moffat each scored six points in the contest. Froehlich had a strong game on defense and was double-digits in rebounding the ball.

“Sweet Home shot the ball much better than us,” said Click. “For the most part our kids took good shots from the outside, but couldn’t get enough to fall. We’ll try to work on shooting more in practice.”

The Lady Outlaws were scheduled to play at Newport on Tuesday, May 25. They will play at home against Philomath on Wednesday, and then travel to Cascade for a non-league game on Friday.
