The Sisters City Council agreed Thursday, February 27, to place three revenue generating measures on the May ballot.

The council proposed raising business license fees from $43 to $100, raising the transient room tax from 7 percent to 8 percent and asking citizens for a property tax base increase or a levy of .81 per $1,000. City attorney Steve Bryant advised the city to authorize a levy vote if a tax base increase proves to be disallowed under new Measure 47 guidelines.

The city council also authorized staff to transfer 5 percent from the water and garbage funds to the general fund to cover administrative costs.

The tax base increase or levy, if passed, would replace the approximately $49,000 the city lost in the Measure 47 tax roll-back. The other measures could net the city an additional $40-$50,000.

The city currently faces a shortfall of about $160,000 from the level department heads say is needed to properly operate the city.
