Students score smartly on assessments

Third graders at Sisters Elementary School last year scored very well in the 1997 Oregon Statewide Assessment Program.

In mathematics, as well as reading and literature, they scored well above state average in most areas,

and near or at the top of a comparison group of schools of similar social and economic characteristics.

School superintendent Steve Swisher cautioned, however, that while he would prefer high scores to low scores, the data is not as conclusive as one might think.

Students apply math to "real world"

Room-raising donations building
