With the local scholarship season about to open for the class of 2024, the Sisters Graduate Resource Organization (GRO), which manages the program, has announced a new executive director, Regan Roberts, who started in mid-August. The Oregon Classic, held January 12-13, attracted more than 50 teams from all Oregon classifications as one of the largest gatherings of wrestlers annually in the state. The tournament is unique in that teams pair up with other squads for a series of head to head duals, and final team results are based on which team ultimately comes out on top in the classification. Sisters High School played host to the annual GFP Outlaw Invite on Saturday, December 16 with mixed results. The girls tied for eighth among 13 teams, while the boys took ninth among 14 teams. The Outlaws wrestling team traveled to Culver for a two-day tournament December 8-9 and showed continued improvement, according to Head Coach David Kemp. Five girls competed in the tournament for Sisters, including top finisher Brooklynn Cooper, who picked up a third place medal in the 122-128 pound division. Sisters High School senior Ella Bartlett will continue her running career next year for the Nighthawks at Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) in Nampa, Idaho. Her choice became official on November 28 in a signing ceremony at Sisters High School, surrounded by her parents, coaches, and teammates. Truly ugly weather didn't dampen the spirits of the 250 runners and walkers who took part in the third annual Ugly Sweater Run and Walk, organized by Kelly Bither of RunSistersRun. The ninth annual Outlaw Hall of Fame ceremony is set for Sunday, November 12, at 3 p.m. in the high school commons. A change from previous years is a move from a full dinner to an afternoon event with appetizers. The Pole Creek Ranch provided a perfect setting for the Sisters Outlaws' home cross-country meet held Wednesday, October 11. Dramatic skies that included long-lasting rainbows added extra beauty to the course set at the iconic ranch. The Oktoberfest tradition continues this fall as the parents of the graduating class of 2024 host an evening of festing and fun for those 21 and over on Sunday, October 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sisters High School. Matt Hilgers has taken over the role of athletic director for Sisters High School following Gary Thorson's tenure of five-and-a-half years. Hilgers moved to Sisters in 2021 after a number of years working at Taft Middle School and High School in Lincoln City. The seventh annual Hoodoo Challenge: Run to the Top may have provided runners with the biggest challenge in the event's history on Saturday, July 22.
