Firefighters report success battling Grandview Fire

Firefighters are making progress building containment lines to hold the 5,723-acre Grandview Fire in the areas to the east and south where homes are threatened.

Governor Kate Brown enacted the Conflagration Act on Monday, July 12, allowing more resources to be dedicated to the fire. A statewide task force has responded to provide structure protection for 412 homes considered to be under threat from the blaze, which broke out on Sunday afternoon on rangelands northeast of Sisters.

The fire is burning approximately nine miles northeast of Sisters.

The Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team that is now in command of the fire reports that winds from the north and east have pushed the fire into Stevens Canyon. Much of the east flank of the fire has been lined.

The team reports that, "Firefighters have been holding the fire west of Whychus Creek, while picking up small spot fires that have crossed over."While the fire has been active in hot, dry conditions, fire crews are reporting success across the fire area.

"Much of the east and south portions of the fire that pose the most threat to populated areas have containment lines in place," the team reports. "Crews will continue to tie a few areas together and strengthen edges through mop-up operations."

The fire is officially five percent contained.
