Sisters Middle/High School principal Dennis Dempsey has been elected president of the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators. The selection adds to a growing number of honors for Dempsey.

As president-elect of OASSA, Dempsey will represent the association in Region 7 of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. NASSP is the nation's largest school leadership organization. Dempsey will become president of the state association in July, 1997.

Dempsey was hired as the first principal of the new middle/high school in 1992.

Before coming to Sisters Dempsey was president of the Alaska Association of Secondary School Administrators (1989-90). He was a principal at Homer, Alaska. He distinguished himself as the principal of the year for the State of Alaska in the late 1980s, according to Sisters Superintendent Steve Swisher.

It also stated that each of the three schools he has been principal of over the past 15 years has been recognized for excellence in education.

He also has been a successful cross country running and track coach, having led teams to four state championships in cross country. Currently, he is the head track coach at Sisters Middle/High School.
