News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws girls tennis squad is expected to be very successful in league tennis competition. Sisters returns several talented, experienced players this year, and there are several strong new additions. The season has been cut down to six short weeks, with an average of three matches each week.
At the conclusion of volleyball, seniors Sophia Silva and Ellie Rush will move right into tennis. They will only get one practice under their belts before the first match. Both girls are talented players, and will most likely play at the No. 1 doubles spot. Coach Alan VonStein told The Nugget that both Silva and Rush exhibit court quickness, awareness, and focus.
Josie Patton and Jenna Kizziar will hold down the No. 2 doubles spot. They both have strong serves and communicate well, a critical component to doubles play. The duo is expected to do very well in league.
A very talented freshman, Juhree Kizziar, will play No. 1 singles. Juhree has worked very hard in the off-season and she already has a strong love and knowledge of the game. VonStein stated that Juhree will surprise many of the teams in the league.
Ellie Mayes will take over at No. 2 singles. Mayes covers the court well, and has a natural feel for the game. Freshman Katie Ryan, who hasn’t played tennis before this season, will play No. 3 singles. VonStein noted she’s a quick study with natural athleticism, and will challenge her teammates for a higher seeding position as the season progresses.
Elena Mansfield, also new to the sport, will round out the singles. She’s developed her game quickly in the few practices the team has had, and has a very solid baseline game.
Also new to the team this year are Brooke Harper, Molly Greaney, Sienna Jones, Adriana Luna, Leah O’ Hern, Lindsay Scott, and Charlotte Seymour. VonStein said that all these young women are demonstrating focus, are quickly picking up the game, and will challenge each other for the remaining open positions.
The Lady Outlaws first match of the season was at home against Estacada on Tuesday, April 13.
