Group supports caregivers

Thelma’s Place Adult Day Respite Program in Redmond hosts a monthly support group for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia-related disease. The support group is held every third Wednesday of the month, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The group offers free family-caregiver support sessions featuring local organizations each month who join to share their experiences and resources.

Thelma’s Place is the only adult day respite program in Central Oregon. At least 20 percent of adult children are taking care of an older parent, (this may have increased due to COVID-19). About 85 percent of family caregivers in the U.S. do not receive any respite care, but more than 90 percent of family caregivers say they value the experience.
