Detectives arrest man in school threat incident

The man who allegedly made a threat to a Sisters school on May 5, leading to an early dismissal of students and a couple of days of heightened alert, has been taken into custody by law enforcement. Charles Matthew Schmiel, 41, faces one charge of first-degree disorderly conduct.

According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, detectives learned the location of Schmiel on May 16. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office detectives contacted the Beaverton Police Department and relayed the information regarding Schmiel’s location. Officers from the Beaverton Police Department contacted Schmiel at a local car dealership and he was taken into custody without incident. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office detectives met with Beaverton Police and transported Schmiel to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Jail where he was lodged.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Beaverton Police Department and the FBI for their assistance in this investigation.
